Meet the Staff: The Phototuts+ Team

Mon, 03/14/2011 - 09:00 — julie

Cameras, lenses, theology, travel and humidity. This week we meet the Phototuts+ team. This post is taken from the Phototuts+ Team page on the site.

Sometimes, it’s easy to forget that actual human beings create the content here on Phototuts+. We are in fact real people, and not just photography loving robots. In addition to numerous part time contributors, we have a team of talented and passionate artists creating all kinds of tutorials and content teaching all things photography from lighting to post processing.

Browse this page to get to know us better and feel free to say hi on Twitter or on Facebook. Also, if you would like to contribute content to the site you can learn more information on our Submission Page.

David Appleyard is part of the Envato™ team, the editor of Phototuts+, and the manager of the AppStormnetwork. He loves keeping abreast of new developments in photography, and has a love for flicking through stunning images.

David lives in Manchester, UK, with his girlfriend Jen, and loves playing around with the latest Apple and photography gadgets. Although he’s been enjoying and studying photography for several years now, he still learns almost as much from editing the Phototuts+ articles as you do from reading them!

One day he might move to a country that has slightly better weather for photography – you can only take so many photos of miserable, grey, British skies before everything starts to look the same…

My name is Simon Bray, I live in Manchester, England, having recently graduated from Manchester University in Music. I am currently studying theology part-time as well as working within the music industry managing Brighton based band Tall Ships.

My passion for photography grew from the taking holiday snaps as a child with my parents 35mm camera, over the years I have invested in a collection of film and digital cameras and have spent time developing my photographic eye, shooting wherever and whenever I am given the opportunity. I now specialise in live and promotional music photography but maintain an opportunistic element to my work. I aim to continue developing and learning new photographic skills in order to improve my work.

I purchased my first 35mm camera directly after high school and have been enthralled with the media ever since. Experimenting first with black and white basics and moving on eventually to digital photography, I have always been pleased with how much there is to learn about capturing light and presenting it.

Photography and travel have always gone hand in hand for me. I prefer grand, technical and powerful shots that help the viewer feel what it’s like in a far off land or right around their corner in Washington state where I live. I always carry a camera when on the road but have found some of the best photos I’ve taken have come after setting the camera aside, getting to know a landscape, then setting up to shoot.

I enjoy making connections with others and getting the chance to tell a bit of their story and that’s why I enjoy portrait and wedding photography as much as I do. I’ve been shooting weddings for over 18 years and enjoy the challenge of capturing the uniqueness that makes every wedding a very special day.

Hi, I’m Prakash Ghodke, an 18 year old from India working as freelance Web/Graphics Designer. Owner of and where I share tutorials and resources related to web design and web development.

My name is Peter Sawyer, I am a freelance graphics designer with a huge passion for photography. I own a Canon 7D and I take it with me everywhere; as you never know what you might come across.

Photography is a lot more difficult than people first imagine. I find it extremely rewarding to teach others how to use their cameras as well as software such as Adobe Photoshop to their maximum potential.

I currently live in glorious sunny England in a town called Ipswich, but love traveling around the world as you can see from my photography

I’m a freelance writer and specialise in writing about photography. I work from home in Auckland, New Zealand and as well as writing articles for Photo Tuts+ I’m the Technical Editor for EOS magazine, a quarterly magazine for EOS camera users published in the UK. We write in-depth articles dedicated to help Canon users get the most out of their digital SLRs.

I also write photography eBooks for Craft & Vision. Create by David DuChemin, Craft & Vision is one of the hottest resources for learning photography around.

You can keep up with my latest articles and news at my blog, where you’ll also see my newest photos.

It’s quite difficult to describe yourself, because the best way to know someone is spending time together. I was born back in the 90′s, and since then many great things happened in my life. I learned to read, to ride a bicycle or to make a small fan using paper and batteries. You might think these things aren’t important, but this is what helps you go on, and makes you be a human being full of experiences and knowledge.

Before I continue, you should know that I currently live in Spain, in a wonderful beachside city called Castellón. Palm trees, heat and humidity everywhere. Beside the hot summers, we have great sun and light here, specially for you, photographers! I’m currently in college, studying Audiovisual Communications. My goal is to be a photographer some day, but until then I try to get better every day.

This began some years ago, when I started making photos. You know, using your dad’s camera just now and then, until I realized that photography is a wonderful way of viewing the world that surrounds us. Some time later, I bought my own SLR, and since then I’ve been learning each day. I think you never stop learning! That’s why I always try to make something new, get more creative. My tutorials are about things I like and do. You’ll notice that DIY is one of my biggest hobbies. Besides that, I hope you enjoyed reading my short bio!.
