Mon, 01/19/2015 - 18:02 — julie

CodeCanyon author and developer Abhimanyu Sharma takes us on a tour of his beautiful hometown, Jaipur, otherwise known as ‘Pink City’.

Tell us a little bit about you – who you are, what you do for a living, and what you like to do in your spare time?

Hello, I’m Abhimanyu Sharma (abhimanyusharma003) and I live in Jaipur, India. I’m currently pursuing a BTech degree in Computer Science. I sell my products on Envato and after I complete my BTech I have plans to become full time on Envato. In my spare time I watch movies, play games, and learn photography.

How did you first find out about Envato Market?

I first landed on http://code.tutsplus.com searching for some good tutorials on PHP, HTML and JavaScript. It was from Tuts+ that I also came to know about Envato Market where one can sell products. It literally was “learn and earn” for me!

Do you remember the first time you submitted something to Envato Market? What was the item? Did it get approved?

My first product was Dynamic Website Compressor submitted on August 16, 2012. At first it was soft rejected by the reviewer and I was told to write and include good documentation for the item.

I worked on the documentation and re-submitted, and it got approved! This was my very first product I sold on Envato Market and sales picked up the first day.

This was the happiest day of my life!

Tell us about the city where you live. What do you like most about where you live?

I live in Jaipur, Rajasthan which is more commonly known worldwide as the historical city, ‘Pink City’. As the name suggests, all the buildings in the city are pink in color which makes it most beautiful and unique.

Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort, and Jantar Mantar (an observatory) are probably the most well-known monuments in Pink City and Jhori Bajar is popular and well known for for its jewelry business.

The temperature here is quite extreme, in the summer it can get up to 45 degrees celsius and in the winter it can get down to freezing point.

Tell us about your creative process. How do you go from an idea to an approved item on Envato Market?

I surf the Web a lot and I read blogs and articles from various developers and designers. I’m always trying to stay up-to date with the latest technology.

Being a PHP developer, the entire PHP community inspires me a lot to be better in the coding process. I interact with different people and see how they work, I share thoughts with them, and I try to adopt good practices.

The development tools I use includes:

  • Vagrant (Local development environment)
  • phpStorm (Primary tool for development)
  • Sublime Text (For quick edits)
  • GIT (Version Control System)
  • Chrome (Default browser)
  • Windows (Default OS)

When my products are complete I review them thoroughly and write nice, clear documentation. This helps non-technical people to quickly understand each part of the product.

Where do you get your creative inspiration from?

In day to day life when I see the things that interest me, they inspire me to do them in different and better ways.

Which Envato Market item you’ve created is your favorite, and why?

‘Hackers News : Community Script’ is my favorite item. With this script buyers can start a community site on selective topic or wide range topics. Where their users can share resources from web and can ask questions.

Since internet is huge, it consume lot of time and energy in searching for resources on a topic. With ‘Hackers News : Community Script’ users share and get all the required resources at one place and they remain up to date. They can also interact with each other.

What is your favorite Envato Market item by another author and why do you like it?

Visual Composer – one of Abhi’s favorites!

Visual Composer is the item I like most on Envato Market. I think it is so popular because it allows users to totally customize the look and design of a WordPress theme. Users who don’t have coding knowledge can customize the theme design in matter of seconds with easy-to-use drag and drop functions.

Which other Envato Market authors do you enjoy seeing and why?

Muko: I love their videos, they are creative and fresh. Their item Photo And Typo Opener is one my favorite After Effects projects.

What are you working on right now?

I always keep working on updating my current products and add new feature to them. There are also two new projects in the pipeline that I’m working on that are currently under wraps!

Abhi’s latest projects are a big secret and are being carefully guarded by Cobra snakes!

What advice would you give to someone brand new starting out on Envato Market?

Focus on making quality products, add your best, full effort to it, and stay up-to-date with technology. Provide good documentation and offer a good support service. Always listen to buyers and their needs.

How do you manage support questions from buyers? How much time do you spend on support?

I take support questions seriously, I always listen to buyers and their troubles and I try to resolve them as fast as possible and provide updates to those issues. Right now I take all my support queries via e-mail and spend around 1-2 hours per day on support. I always try to make sure that no question remain un-answered.

If you could change one thing about Envato Market, what would it be?

One thing I would like change on Envato is faster item update time. Sometimes one has to wait a while for updates to get approved.
