As always, this is the final image that we’ll be creating:

Step 1

Create a new document (1000X800px).

We want to start by laying out some guides for our content areas. Go to view>new guide and then create 2 vertical guides, at 50px and 950px (creating a main column for your content that’s 900px wide).

Now create horizontal guides at 130px, 250px, 500px and 800px.

Your document, complete with guides should look like the image below:

Ok, so I’m sorry if I made you drop your toast, there. I know you’re thinking, “But… It’s still largely experimental… In the browser, to boot!” Yes, CSS3 support is even more fickle amongst a swag of email clients that can’t even get CSS2 right. But that doesn’t mean that it’s too soon to touch any of it.

The Vignette Effect – What Is It?

The Vignette is an increasingly popular design trend. So, just what is it?

Vignetting has been used in photography for some time, and is a reduction of an image’s brightness or saturation at the periphery. Essentially, the center of the image is the brightest, whilst the edges often form a circular border of shadow.

Often Vignetting occurs in photography unintentionally due to camera settings and lens limitations. However, the effect can also be integrated with special filters and post processing procedures.

Below shows various examples of a vignette effect at varying intensities. How is your mood effects by each intensity?
